Ibapah Scout Auction

Last weekend we went to Ibapah to get away from everyday life and to attend their scout cake auction and dinner. The weather was beautiful, as always. We saw sun all three days and a little wind on Saturday. The boys spent tons of time riding the razor and 4-wheeler. The girls and I were busy Saturday morning making our cakes for the auction. They had decided to use sugar sheets to decorate their cakes. Of course, they wanted to do Cake Boss cakes, but I protested and said they had to be simple. Don was wanting to put a small .22 caliber pistol in one of the cakes and much to my protest, he succeeded. The girls made a polka dot cake using sugar sheets. it started out as a nightmare, but turned out rather cute. The other cake Darek had decided needed to be John Deere, so I purchased two small tractors and green & yellow sugar sheets to decorate. After I had the cake baked, Don cut a small hole in the first layer and wrapped his gun in tinfoil and in it went. We then placed the second layer on top and after 2 hours and some cursing, the final product was fabulous. We went to the church and had a fabulous turkey dinner and enjoyed a great cake auction. Our cakes were big sellers. The polka dot cake went for $65 and the John Deere cake went for $100. They did inform the bidders that there was a gun in one of the cakes and then narrowed it down to two cakes. We were really surprised it sold for so much, but it sure helped out their troop. It was a great weekend!
